Newfie Life~Break in Breeding
Well, I am very happy to report that Breezy was in fact, not pregnant. It was a false pregnancy. I thought maybe I had gone crazy. I couldn’t imagine a mating that took place without me knowing because Breezy is my shadow. If you know, you know. So, I should’ve known this one. She is back to normal and enjoying that the retired life. Grace will be next. She will be having her last litter this winter and then we will be retiring her as well. We believe that 2025 could possibly be our last year of breeding for a while. It is possible, depending on their heat cycles, that we may have 1 or 2 litters in 2026 but, soon, all of our mamas will be enjoying this retirement life. We do not breed after the age of 5. With the Newfie life span average being 8-10 years, we believe that it’s crucial to allow them to have a few good years of living their best life into their golden era. It’s going to be so hard not having puppies anymore. They are incredibly hard work. They consume our lives, literally 24/7 while they are with us. But the fruits of our labor prove to be so worth it. Getting to see our pups growing up with their forever families is the most rewarding feeling. We see their parents (our perfect Newfies…yes, I’m partial) in every single one of them. We see how they love and guard their “littles” and yes, we even see the shenanigans. The chewed baseboards, massive piles of hair after being brushed, the messes of water, mud, chewed up sticks…I could go on but, it would take all day to list it all. These are the things that make us feel honored to be a part of this Newfie life. If I am being completely honest, I dont know what the future holds for us after 2026. I know that we cannot bring on any new pups as we have a full house. That’s kind of an understatement. Until I get a farm, no new Newfies for me. My city will kick us out! :)
I am just so blessed and feel so honored to have been able to bring this Newfie life to so many families. The love of a pet is something that I think everyone should feel in their lifetime. Newfies love BIG! They require so little in the entirety of their life. Love them and give them lots of food and good treats. In return, they give you belly laughs, torso crushing cuddles, deep conversations with lots of sass, and so much love sometimes it makes you cry just to think of it. They are the best, ever! I wouldn’t trade this life for the world and, I pray we are able to come back to this part after our retirement break. If that’s not in the cards, let me just take this opportunity to personally thank every single one of my puppy families for enabling this incredible journey we’ve been on together. We love you all and will always be family. I speak for every member of our family when I say this has been the best experience, ever.
