Newfie Pride
I know that everyone has got too be sick of my obsession with my dogs. I seriously cannot get enough of them. It’s so hard to describe the life we live.
”2 houses?”
”7 kids?”
”8 dogs?”
This is the reason I am starting my own TikTok newfie channel, soon. Our instagram and Facebook showcase the beauty of our Newfies but do those pictures and reels actually show what life is like?
We didnt start with 2 houses or even the intention of 2 houses. Before judging us, ask us! We are literally an open book.
Picture it, Michigan, 2004. I was married with 5 children when the spark of my Newfie obsession started. After much research and a few failed attempts, I finally found the perfect family dog for us. Fast forward to 2020, 6 children and 5 Newfoundlands later. My mother makes it known that she wants to have her own Newfies and says, “I may as well start breeding myself (with my help of course)”…Enter Deveana. She fell in love with Deveana because of how unique her markings were. I fell in love with Willow and could not part with her. She decided to keep Willow, too, figuring they would be happier together. Then, my daughter/business partner decided she wanted to have her own Newfoundland after falling in love with Violette (from day 1). Not long after that, my mother became ill and tested positive for Covid. Things got scary and I moved in with her temporarily to take care of her. It was a lot of back and forth but with us being so close (only 2 miles), it wasn’t hard at all. However, I was very lonely for my doggies (im used to them sleeping in my room and bed every night). I started bringing them over to moms to hang out with me, one or two at a time. Everyone took turns except my poor Breezy Bear. She is my anxious girl. Getting her out the door is a task in itself, let alone in the car for a ride. Finally, I couldn’t take it anymore so we concocted a plan to get Breezy to my moms and she’s never left. This is where I sleep now because it’s too hard to take my baby back and forth. It’s also super easy to have the mamas with their babies here. We have a bit more room for the pups at this house. I go back and forth and so do my doggies and it stays like this for many reasons. The most important reason I stay here now is because my mother is 80 and I don’t feel right leaving her by herself. And it works for my Newfies as well. It’s so much easier to prevent the “oopsie” matings and now that we have 3 daughters of Bashr, that is extremely important. So yes…2 houses, 7 children, 8 dogs and countless extended family with a revolving door.
These dogs have touched the lives of so many, not just in my family anymore but in the lives of 60 puppy families and counting and I couldn’t be more proud. I love my special babies! Newfie life ain’t for everyone but it’s definitely meant for me.
